April 4, 2025 - Sacramento emo alt-rock fans were in for a treat this evening as the Movements Spring Tour made a stop at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel n Wheatland, CA. On their 3rd to the last stop of a 5 week tour, they brought a great gang of bands on this leg, including citizen, the Ohio/Michigan shoe-gazing band, and emo-power pop band Scowl from Santa Cruz, CA, and opening the show, Downward from Tulsa, OK.
Opening the show was Tulsa’s ethereal and profound Downward. The mood was heavy, as was the lighting. I enjoyed the thoughtful guitar playing and the soothing vocals. From what I have witnessed, this band is going to climb the ladder of alt-rock quickly.

The power punk pop band Scowl was up next, fronted by cheeky Kat Moss. This band set the town for the rest of the evening, belting out angsty teen banter and infectious hooks. They were exciting to watch and had a great stage presence; their new album, “All We All Angels” is set to release on April 4th, so look out for this band touring later this spring and summer in the UK and Europe.

Citizen is on deck for more alt-rock and emo hardcore anthems. I was impressed by the Hamm Brothers Nick on lead guitar and Eric on bass; these guys are considered the 4th wave of the emo hardcore genre. They continue to hold their spot in the emo hardcore alt-rock world and continue to tour and amaze their fans with magical sets that are unforgettable.

Movements are up to close out the show; the fans were rabid at this point to see the kings of shoe gazing, alt emo punk pop! The lighting was beautiful, something we photographers love: rich primary colors and great sound. The Hard Rock always delivers the sound. Movements is a post-hardcore band from southern California the delivered the goods this evening with the punk sounds and relatable lyrical content. The fans loved every minute of this show. I must say I enjoyed the infectious sound and insight of this angst-fueled band. They wrap up this tour near home in Los Angeles so don’t miss this one!
